My name is Judy Ng ( it is ok if you cannot pronounce my last name).
(1) I am a third culture kid brought up in 3 different continents. So I learn to carve out my own identity, come to terms with awkwardness of being different, and have some fun. (2) With sports I enjoy being more a Jane of all Trades than a Specialist, I grew up with martial arts, then found my way outside in my 20s with rock climbing, going into the mountains, running, road and mountain biking, and snowshoeing (definitely no more skiing) (3) Journeying out to see the world helped me learn to live simply, and to appreciate others as individuals despite social differences. |
Professionally, I am a PhD molecular biologist with a background in immunology, also biochemistry, neurobiology and somewhat cardiology. Science and math was my thing in school, and since then, I have worked on some pretty cool projects in medical disease research. Specifically:
(1) Oncology - T cell tumour immunosurveillance in mouse models (2) Neuroimmunology - developing immunoassays to detect autoantibodies against neural antigens in multiple sclerosis and peripheral neuropathies, and working in a team to further develop a T cell antigen identification method by fishing from library (3) Cardiology - generating transgenic animals for study of gene therapy strategies for heart failure models Now I am looking for a way to combine my professional training as a molecular biologist with my passion to be outside and to meet strangers. |
